Protecting What We Love: How We Safeguard the Nā Pali Coast
At Na Pali Experience, the Nā Pali Coast is more than just where we work. It’s where we feel connected to the ocean, to the land, our heritage, and to everything that makes Kaua’i so special. Every time we head out on the water, we are reminded how important it is to take care of this incredible coastline. Protecting it is not just a responsibility. It’s a promise we make every single day.
🐠We Use Moorings to Protect Coral Reefs:
Anchors can crush coral and damage the fragile ecosystems that live beneath the surface. To avoid this, we use mooring buoys to secure our boats without harming the reef. When moorings aren’t available and we have to throw anchor we make sure that we are in a sandy area free from coral life.
🐬We Educate Our Guests on Wildlife Safety:
Seeing dolphins, whales, and seat turtles in their natural environment is unforgettable. We make sure our guests know how to observe wildlife respectfully by keeping a safe distance, staying quiet, and allowing animals to move freely without disturbance. Don’t touch the turtles!
🪸We Use Reef Safe Sunscreen:
Sunscreen should protect your skin without hurting the ocean. We only allow reef safe sunscreens on board to help keep harmful chemicals out of the water and away from coral reefs. Applying sunscreen at least 30 minutes prior to getting in the water will allow for it to soak in and prevent it from washing off.
💦We Keep Plastic Off Our Boats:
We believe plastic has no place in the ocean. On board, we provide fresh filtered water and encourage all of our guests to bring reusable water bottles on board. We provide biodegradable cups for guests who may not have a bottle available. We use recyclable trash bags, and minimize plastic packaging in every way we can. Every small choice adds up to a healthier ocean.
🛥️We take every opportunity to clean:
Our crew regularly makes stops to pull in plastic and marine debris whenever we are out on the water. We host Adopt Na Pali annually where we gather our boats, jet skis and volunteers to do a massive coast clean up, bringing in thousands of marine debris to be recycled and repurposed.
🌎Every Day is Earth Day.
Protecting the Nā Pali Coast is at the heart of everything we do. It is not just a policy or a checklist. It is a deep respect for the land and the sea that shapes the decisions we make. When you join us on the water, you are choosing a company who makes a promise to care for the special place that gives to us so much ✨
